About the event

Do you know the four main muscle layers of the back? From the deepest stabilizers to the most superficial movers, each plays a unique role in how we stand, move, and connect in tango. In this class, we will explore how these muscles work together to support your axis, create a natural connection between your upper and lower body, and enrich the quality of your dance. Through practical exercises and tango movement, you will discover how anatomy can help you develop stable pivots, fluid motion, and a soft yet powerful abrazo.

This class complements When Tango meets anatomy 1 - from your feet to your pelvis. They combine practical exploration with clear anatomical insights, helping you understand your body so you can dance tango with greater comfort, elegance, awareness, and expressive freedom.

More about Katia Abbondanzieri

Katia is a physiotherapist and a passionate tango dancer. She has been dancing both roles since 2010 and teaches tango through the lens of body biomechanics. Her approach helps dancers become aware of every movement, allowing their dance to be as harmonious and fluid as possible.

Having practiced massage from a very young age, she also teaches this discipline in various health schools, including the Higher School of Podiatrists in Geneva, focusing on a subtle and precise study of the foot and gait.

The workshop offered here will explore the role of the legs in tango — including propulsion, walking biomechanics, pivots, the role of the pelvis, and other specific aspects.

The goal is to develop awareness of what happens in your body while dancing, helping you avoid overloading joints that could become painful.

Private lessons are also available to address individual needs related to the biomechanics of your tango.

Please arrive up to 15 minutes early for this class to ensure we can start promptly.
